Spiraling into the Center

Spiraling into the center, the center of our shield.

Spiraling into the center, the center of our shield.

I am the weaver, I am the woven one.

I am the dreamer, I am the dream.

I am the weaver, I am the woven one.

I am the dreamer, I am the dream.

Recently, in our writing and creativity workshops we have been using a variety of archetypal methods for finding "a way in" to our psyche in order to unleash our creativity, tap into our power, and find our voice.

We have walked a labyrinth, drawn spirals while listening to chanting, drawn archetypal shapes with our whole bodies, and created mandalas while listening to shamanic drumming. What an incredibly powerful practice! Poems burst forth, synchronicity among participants occurs, writer's block evaporate, hearts are healed, and journeys are defined.

As a life-long writer and teacher of writing, I am entrenched in the "writing process" as defined by academia--the old prewrite-write-share-revise idea. Over the years I have also tried some non-academic methods to become more creative and avoid derivative writing and increase output: meditating, collaging, reading fasts, writing games, etc. These were all useful, but through these journey workshops, I have realized that the journey of creating is analogous to our journey of life and our journey of life is represented in these ancient acts and notions. The way in, is the way in, is the way in, is the way in. The more we spiral into the center of our truth, we realize we are the writers and we are the word, we are the singers and we are the song, we are the players and we are the play. I've always known that, but I didn't know that. On my journey to the way in, I realized I am the way.
